How we score competitive intelligence tools
Every ranked tool receives a weighted score across five pillars on a 0-10 scale. This page holds the rubric, the evidence standards behind it & the policy for keeping scores current.
The five pillars
| Pillar | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Source coverage & refresh | 30% | How many source types the tool watches (websites, job postings, reviews, social, news, filings) and how often it re-checks them. Stale coverage invalidates everything downstream, so this pillar carries the most weight. |
| Alert precision | 25% | Signal-to-noise in what reaches your inbox. From a fixed tracking setup, we count the alerts that deserve action against the ones that bury them. |
| Battlecard & enablement workflow | 20% | Whether findings reach the seller mid-deal: battlecard tooling, CRM & Slack distribution, and analytics on whether anyone opens what gets pushed. |
| Win-loss integration | 15% | Whether deal outcomes feed back into the intelligence. Native interview tooling scores highest; import paths & partner integrations earn partial credit. |
| Pricing transparency | 10% | Published tiers score highest. Sales-quoted pricing scores lower; contracts built around auto-renewal clauses score lower still. |
Evidence standards
Scores rest on three evidence classes: trial accounts run against scripted monitoring tasks, interviews with practitioners who operate these tools daily, and vendor documentation read closely. A marketing claim counts as a claim; it graduates to a finding when testing confirms it.
Each review names what was tested and when. Where a pillar sits outside a tool's scope (win-loss in a page-change tracker, for example), the review says so and the score reflects the gap rather than hiding it.
Vendor policy
Vendors may correct factual errors before publication. Scores stay ours: vendors see them when the page goes live, and placement in the ranking carries zero price. Commercial relationships, where they exist, are disclosed on the page and sit downstream of scoring.
Update policy
Rankings re-validate on a rolling cycle and re-score after material events: acquisitions, pricing changes, product sunsets. Every review carries its last-updated date, and corrections land in place with a note in the dateline.
Current status
Test cycles for the ten ranked tools are running now. Each review page publishes its scored verdict as its cycle completes; until then, review pages hold the verified facts on file and say so at the top.
The rubric feeds the 2026 ranking and every standalone page on the review desk. The pillars themselves come from the field manual: source quality standards from sources of competitive intelligence, delivery standards from the report guide & outcome standards from how to measure competitive intelligence. Zero-budget alternatives live in the free tools list; corrections & vendor questions go through the editorial policy and the contact page.
